According to PaddyPower Irish punters are waking up to the belief that their World Cup dream is well and truly over with the bookmaker reporting less than €200 wagered on the Boys in Green successfully qualifying for next years Finals since their defeat at the hands of the French in Croke Park.
In an effort to entice patriotic punters into backing Ireland PaddyPower pushed Ireland’s qualification odds from 7/1 to 8/1 but this move resulted in only one bet of €20. PaddyPower have also pledged to refund a variety of losing bets on Wednesday’s match should Ireland win the game in normal time. PaddyPower said “We literally cannot give Ireland away at the moment. Punters seem to believe it’s the end of the line for the boys but we all know the impact an early Irish goal would have on Wednesday so I wouldn’t be inclined to throw in the towel so fast.”
As the ongoing dispute between the French Football Federation and Irish broadcasters intensifies PaddyPower have slashed the odds on Wednesday’s game NOT being televised from 6/1 to 2/1 second-favourite. The national broadcaster RTE remains favourite to televise the match live but have drifted in the betting from 1/4 to 1/3 amid growing concerns that a deal will not be struck in time.

Ireland’s odds of qualifying for the World Cup have drifted all the way out to 7/1 with PaddyPower following Saturday night’s Croke Park defeat. France are now roaring hot 1/20 favourites to win the tie and book their ticket to South Africa. The home team are also odds on to seal their fate with a victory on Wednesday with PaddyPower offering 8/15 for a French win, and 6/1 for an Irish upset.
With live pictures still not secured for Irish fans, PaddyPower are also taking football bets on which channel the match will be shown. Despite the current stand off RTE is hot favourite at 1/4 to show the match with TV3 at 9/2 and an almost unthinkable no show at only 6/1. PaddyPower said, “It was pretty gutwrenching to watch on Saturday night but who knows, stranger things have happened. The most important thing at this stage is that they get the rights sorted so we can watch it for starters!”
