Number one Irish online bookmaker PaddyPower has installed building society Nationwide as the 5/1 favourites to replace E.On as the next sponsor of the FA Cup. As existing partners to the England football team Nationwide have held a long relationship as a partner to the FA that could lead the way to them taking over the naming rights to English football’s premier domestic cup competition.
Free-spending football sponsors Emirates fly into the betting as second favourites at 6/1 with the bookmaker whilst Aviva, whose football themed ads starring Paul Whitehouse are going down a storm with football fans, are a 10/1 contender. E.On rivals nPower are 20/1. Of the FA’s other existing partners, Carlsberg are 10/1 to align themselves with the FA Cup, Tesco 14/1, Umbro 16/1, and McDonalds a 40/1 outsider.
Darren Haines, spokesman for PaddyPower, said: “The FA Cup may have lost a little of its shine in recent seasons but it will still be a prized asset for many interested brands to sponsor.”
